No Fear; Only Trust

NoFearOnlyTrust

These days, I feel that the biggest issue among the pregnant women I talk to is fear. They worry about everything: “If I walk, will something happen to the baby? If I bend, will something go wrong? If I work, will it affect the baby? My feet are swelling, the doctor said my BP is slightly high this time, what will happen during delivery, will my baby be born healthy?” and so on. These doubts and fears seem endless, especially for the first-time mothers.

Every change that happens in our body during pregnancy is new. Without understanding that these changes are natural and necessary for both the baby and the mother, fearing them is not good for either. You should not get mentally stressed over small things. When pregnant women experience fear or stress, their body releases stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones cross the placenta and reach the baby, increasing the baby’s heart rate and stress levels.

Prolonged fear or anxiety can reduce blood flow to the placenta because, during stress, the mother’s body prioritizes vital organs. This reduced blood flow affects the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the baby, potentially impacting the baby’s growth and development. High levels of maternal stress or fear can also lead to issues in the child later, such as anxiety, ADHD, or difficulty in regulating emotions. The mother’s fear and worries are deeply sensed by the baby, and these feelings are transferred to the child, affecting them as they grow. They may face significant challenges related to fear, anxiety, and tension.

Understand that your body is capable of conceiving only when it is ready to nurture a baby. There is no greater miracle than your body. Trust yourself and your body. Then, trust the little soul that has chosen to come to you. Educate yourself about pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period by consulting experts. Share your fears and worries with professionals. Knowledge and confidence will greatly reduce your fear.

Practice deep breathing exercises regularly. Learn new things. Remember, what you do during your pregnancy is what your children will observe and emulate as they grow. So, be active. Keep yourself engaged in some meaningful work. Keep your hands busy. Walk often. Keep your mind light and free. Keeping yourself happy is the greatest gift you can give your baby.

Happy Pregnancy!!!
